Maynooth Town Centre
We at MSU are striking in solidarity with the Primary and Secondary students of Maynooth. Every Friday at Midday we will be sending representatives to the weekly Fridays For Future Strike in our town. We will be meeting outside the Student Centre at 12.00 every Friday and making our way downtown. Whoever is leading our presence will be holding a blue MSU flag- so you just say Hi to them! You can also join us directly on the Square at 12.30 and show your support for the cause.
Fridays For Future Ireland are a branch of the global #FridaysForFuture movement. We are a network of Irish student climate activists leading Fridays For Future school strikes across Ireland in solidarity with Greta Thunberg and other school strikers across the globe? Our aim is to force the Irish government into taking action on climate change in Ireland, we want our government to align itself with its commitments to the Paris Agreement and to do their part in lowering our emissions to the point where we can limit global climate change to a 1.5 degree average warming target About #FridaysForFuture Globally #FridaysForFuture is a movement that began in August 2018, after 15 years old Greta Thunberg sat in front of the Swedish parliament every schoolday for three weeks, to protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis. She posted what she was doing on Instagram and Twitter and it soon went viral. On the 8th of September, Greta decided to continue striking every Friday until the Swedish policies provided a safe pathway well under 2-degree C, i.e. in line with the Paris agreement. The hashtags #FridaysForFuture and #Climatestrike spread and many students and adults began to protest outside of their parliaments and local city halls all over the world.
