This week Monday the 18th of November marks the beginning of Mind Yourself, a week of 30+ events focussing on self-care and looking after your mental health
Monday 18th of November marks the beginning of 'Mind Yourself', a week of self-care and looking after your mental health. This campaign's purpose, led by MSU VP Welfare and Equality Ciarán Watts, is to encourage students to take time to look after themselves and promote positive mental health. There will be a series of events on during the week which you can find below, so get involved when you can! Practicing self-care across all areas can contribute to a healthier lifestyle, the three focal areas of Mind Yourself this year are:
Healthy Eating:
Your diet can seriously impact your mood, meal prepping and planning ahead can be a good idea when your too tired to cook after a long day of college. Eating a balanced diet and drinking more water can improve both your physical and mental health.
Exercise:
Balancing college assignments, social life and employment can be difficult and leave little time for anything else. However, exercising regularly is an important part of self-care. Try joining a sport in your college or switch to cycling as your go-to mode of transport. Not getting enough sleep can also have a negative impact on your mood and college performance. Switching off in the evening is important, try avoiding screens too close to bed-time and reading a book as an alternative.
Talking About it:
Sharing what’s on your mind can lift the burden make a huge difference. Something as simple as going for a coffee with a friend can have a positive impact, reach out and talk to someone you trust such as a family member, partner or friend.
MSU encourages all students to take time to look after their mental health and feel that they can reach out for support if needed.
